    March 30, 2016

On the second day of the European Masters Athletics Championships Indoor in Ancona, the Italian sprinter Mario Longo surpassed itself and, above all, his M50 world record of 60 meters . The result was expected, after his 7.10 which yesterday in the semifinals equaled the previous mark. It has been punctually materialized on the Palaindoor straight in a great final, running in 7.04. The 51-year-old had a notable career with the National team: among them, stands out the bronze medal on 4×100 at the European Championships in Split 1990.

But there were in total four world records. In fact, the Swedish Mattias Sunneborn got it in the M45 pentathlon with 4113 points, while Osmo Villanen of Finland reached the score of 4472 at his entry in the M80 category, to celebrate his 80th birthday (he was born on March 28, 1936). In the 60 meters final, the British Glyn Sutton set a remarkable 8.09, the new M80 world record. Then also two best European performances in 3000 meters: Silke Schmidt of Germany (10:41.89 in W55 category) and Luciano Acquarone of Italy (M85 with 15:47.14).
