I am extremely proud to be nominated for The Athlete of The Year 2022.Sprinting category. I am delighted to be nominated for this award. It means a lot to me
I am 46 years old and I am married with 2 children. My parents emigrated toThe Gambia when I was a baby and after living there for 15 years, I moved back to the UK. I studied Engineering at Brunel University and after working as a Design Engineer for 2 1/2 years, I became a Police Officer.
2022 was a very successful year for me. I became the European Indoor 60mH. Champion and finished 3rd in the 60m. I also became The World Outdoor 110mH Champion, running a time of 14.64s, which is a new European Record. However, my most outstanding and memorable performance was winning the UK Inter Counties Championships in a new World Record time of 7.91s in 60mH.
This year, first and foremost, I am looking forward to good health and staying fit. I am also very excited to be returning to Torun for the World Indoor Championships, where I hope to be crowned the champion in the 60mH. In the summer, I can’t wait to visit Italy for the European Championships.
When I’m not training or travelling to competitions, I spend some of my time coaching young athletes. It gives me a lot of satisfaction to see them train well and pushing themselves to the limit. It reminds me of when I was their age, dreaming of what it would mean to represent my country in athletics. I have a number of other interests outside of athletics. I love dancing and I would often be the last person left on the dance floor when I go out. Cooking and eating out are also some things that I like doing. I enjoy trying different types of foods when I travel to other countries, so if anyone wants to invite me to lunch or dinner……please send me an invite………
