British and French sprinters prepare for Braga

    The Indoor season is now well under way in Europe with a plethora of Open Meets that embrace all age groups from the Under 17 to Masters, and the mixing of the ages provide challenging competition.

    European Best Male Sprinter of the Year, Donald Brown from Great Britain, who won the European M55 hurdlers in Jesolo last September and was first European in the 60m at the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun last March in 7.60sec, has entered the 60/200m in Braga. He has now commenced his Indoor competition with a 7.63sec effort in London on 5 January. Leroy Golding is one of several other British sprinters competing in Braga, he has entered the M50 and ran 8.20sec and 26.21sec over 200m at a Meet in Manchester.

    World W45 Indoor 1500m bronze medallist, Louise Rudd GBR, raced to a 4.48.29sec time in Sheffield on 5 January. She has entered the 800m/1500m/3000k and the 5km cross-country in Braga and has already run 10.22.22sec for 3000m this year.

    On 11 Jan at a meeting in Fronton, France, their Masters were also competing alongside mixed age groups W45 Catherine Dehais ran 60m 8.82sec. W55 Anne Calgaro 9.39sec, W55 Nadine Landa contested the 60m 9.74sec, high jumped 1.15m and long jumped 4.04m. W55 Pascale Mellado has entered the 200m, long jump and the Pentathlon in Braga. She clocked 9.69sec over 60m in Fronton and Corinne Ruffel reached out to 8.46m in the 4k shot.
