Another record for Caroline Powell in Day 7 at the European Masters Athletics Championships. The British sprinter set a new continental W65 mark, for the second time in this event. At the Caorle stadium in the province of Venice, Italy, she managed to shave just one hundredth of a second off the previous 200m best performance, clocking 30.55 into a -0.9 headwind.
Three days before, she smashed by more than one second the 400m record in 1:08.67. It was a UK domination, as Joylyn Saunders-Mullins took silver in 31.51, then Caroline Marler and Judith Kelsall, respectively fourth and seventh, will secure a very competitive relay.
In the spotlight also Anne Kirstine Jensen of Denmark, who threw a new European record in W65 javelin improving it to 33.39. Men’s track finals were contested as usual in Jesolo, where Alex Swiecicki from Great Britain was a clear winner at 2000m steeplechase for M70 age-group, with over a minute’s margin in 8:24.26.
