Left: finish of the half marathon. On the race track: 1500m final
Sunday. September 16, was the last day of the World Masters Championships 2018. In the morning startet the 1500m finals, while at the side of the tracks the half marathon runners completed one lap to the finish. In the afternoon the 4X100m and 4x100m relays took place. Thanks to the concentration on the Malaga City Athletics Stadium, the grandstand was filled with spectatos and an exuberant atmosphere arose. The half marathon runners were greeted with applause on their finish lap in the stadium, while at the same time the 1500m runners were cheered on and celebrated.
Exemplary for the dramaturgy was the 1500m finale of the age group W50, which started at 11:01, as the half marathon slowly approached its end on the outer track. The 1500m race was marked by the competition of two world record holders (800m, 1500m) whose dramaturgy no director could have planned better. In the end, as in the 800m race, the German Eva Trost (4: 38.80) won ahead of the Dutch Nicole Weijling-Dissel (4: 40.20). Third was the Irish Anne Gilshinan (4:40.67).
