Festival of Records at EMACI 2018 in Madrid

    Excellent conditions and enthusiastic spectators motivated the athletes to top performances. These included 14 world records(WR), 8 European records (ER) and 53 meet records (MR).

    Two world records each by Angela Copson and Petra Bajeat

    Angela Copson (GBR) confirmed impressively her election as Best European Master 2017. She beat Lavinia Petrie’s listed W70 world record for 800 meters clocking 3:00.67 and Riet Jonkers’ WR for 3000 meters clocking 12:49.26. Her third title as European Champion she reached in the 1500m (6:22.03).

    But not only Angela Copson thrilled the audience in Madrid with two world records. Jumping specialist Petra Bajeat from France succeeded in doing the same in the agegroup W50. She long jumped 5.53 to improveJoy Upshaw’s record of 5.45 and high jumped 1.58 to better her own record by one centimeter.

    “Supreme Discipline” Pentathlon

    The penthatlon world record holder Klemens Grissmer (M65) from Germany won convincingly. Although he did not improve his M65 world record but instead broke the listed world record in the triple jump. His compatriot Rolf Geese lost the M70 world record to Valdis Cela (LAT), who scored 4575 points. The second world record in the pentathlon set the Spaniard Jose Vano Urena with 4415 points in M50.

    The Germany Wolfgang Ritte (M65) improvered his own pole vault record by one centimeter to 3.96. At the attempt to skip 4 meters, he narrowly failed. He already broke the world record twice this year, ending at 3.95.

    Olympic flair

    Felicia Tilea, three-time Olympic finalist and world silver medalist of 1995, set a new W50 world record of 47.53 meters in javelin throw. She bettered the listed WR 47.14 of Polish Genowefa Patla. Formaly from Romania Felicia Tilea then represents Spain.
