From record to record – Pole vaulter Wolfgang Ritte

Germany’s Wolfgang Ritte improved on Saturday (April 21, 2018) in Wipperfürth (GER) the M65 outdoor world record in the pole vault of the US-American John Altendorf by 1 cm to 3.90 m. Let us remember that in 2018 he broke the M65 indoor world record in the vault three times, ending at 3.96 meters at the European Championships 2018 in Madrid.

Wolfgang Ritte: “The competition started quite tough for me. After skipping 3.40 m, I jumped 3.70 m in the second attempt and betterd the existing M65 European record of the British Robert Brown by 9 cm. 3.80 m and a renewed improvement of the M65 European record I succeeded in the second attempt. Well advised by Bernhard Wald and Leszek Klima, I finally achieved the world record.”

The photo shows Wolfgang Ritte with his advisors on the day of the competition. Wolfgang Wald was for many years member of the Federal Competition Sports Committee of the German Athletics Association (DLV). Leszek Klima, described by Wolfgang Ritte as a pole vault trainer legend, has been assisting Danny Ecker, Michael Stolle, Tim Lobinger and many other world class pool vaulters for a long time.
