Ulf Agrell, member of Swedish Master Athletics, passed away after a period of illness at age 80. He fell asleep peacefully and quietly in the presence of his family at his home in Malmö.
“In the Swedish Athletics Association’s Masters Committee, we are all deeply saddened of the loss and emptiness of our good friend and sportsman. Ulf was a non-profit sports leader of the old type who competed in wet and dry weather. As member of his local club Heleneholms IF, at district level in Skåne, Athletics Association in Southern Sweden and at association level in the Swedish Masters Athletics Committee,” Chairman Ivar Söderlind of Swedish Masters Athletics Commitee on https://www.friidrott.se/Veteran/Nyheter/September-2020.aspx.
Mr. Agrell had a big heart for athletics from early age, but it has not until his daughter started at the local athletics club he and his wife got involved in the 1980´s.
Since that days he had completed 66 Marathons, several of them at European and World Masters Championships, with a personal best of 3:14.18h.
Since the 1990´s and until a couple of months before he passed away, he attended as a long-distance running coach at his local athletics club every Tuesday and Thursday.
From 1997 and up to 2017 he was part of Team leaders for the Swedish Masters Team at Nordic-, European- and World Masters Championships and also attended at the EMA and WMA General Assemblies.
Since 2006 and up to his passing away he was a member of the Swedish Masters Athletics Commitee.
We thank Ulf Agrell for the efforts he has done for Masters Athletics, and with these words we like to send our condolences to his nearest and dearest.
