Hamburg/GER, 17.10.2021 – German Sandra Morchner sets a W50 European record in the half marathon. Time: 1h15:13
Soon after her 50th birthday on 10 April 2021, Germany’s Sandra Morchner really got going in the long distances.
On 1 May, office administrator Sandra Morchner, who lives on the island of Sylt, set a new German W50 best performance of 36:04.19 at the German 10,000m Championships in Mainz. (# result list Mainz)
On 1 August at the Tine Airfield Run in Schwesing, Sandra (Laufteam Kassel) crossed the finish line in the 10 km road race after 35:03 minutes. (# result list Schwesing)
On 11.9 Sandra got her third German record of the year in the 5000m race at the German Championships in Baunatal after 10000m and 10km. Her finishing time was 17:13,40. (# result list Baunatal)
In all three disciplines 5.00m, 10.000m and 10km Sandra improved the German W50 best performances held so far by Silke Schmidt (mettmann-sport).
The experts wiped their eyes in amazement when 50-year-old Sandra Morchner crossed the finish line in the Berlin Marathon on 26 September with a time of 2:39:36 as the second-best German and 19th woman overall, again setting a new German W50 record. (# result list Berlin)
Sandra Morcher underlined her special class at the German Half Marathon Championships, which took place in Hamburg on 17.10.2021. She outclassed the competition and set a new W50 European record with a time of 1h15:13. In doing so, she bettered the 15-year-old European record of 1h16:07 by Ukraine’s Tatyana Pozdnyakova by almost a minute. (# result list Hamburg)
