Warsaw – Ministry of Sport and Tourism and preparation to WMACI 2019 in Torun/Poland

    In Warsaw on April 19th at the invitation of Witold Banka – Minister of Sport and Tourism held a meeting with medallists of the 7th World Indoor Masters Championships in Athletics, which has been ended three weeks ago in South Korean Daegu.
    It is worth mentioning that in Daegu there were more than 4300 participants, and Poland in all age categories in the world medal has ranked 9th, winning 61 medals (25 + 18 + 18).

    Jerzy Krauze on behalf of the European Masters Athletics, Polish Masters Athletics and Mayor of Torun, informed that the next 8th Indoor World Masters Championships will be held on 24-30 March 2019 in Torun. At the same time, he asked for support and promotion of this event by the Ministry and joining in organization of this important event for Poland. Minister Banka thanked for the sport achievements and pointed out that sport has no barriers, and the masters category is worthy of imitation by young people at the same time as the fundament for other sports. 

    For the participants of this meeting it was a special moment and the fact that Minister Witold Banka recently was an active competitor who specialized in sprints running, especially on 400m (PB 46,11s). He finished his sports career in 2012, and by that time he had recorded several notable successes, especially in the relay 4x400m i.e. bronze medal of the IAAF World Championships – Belgrade 2007, gold medal of the European Youth Championship Erfurt 2005, gold medal of the Summer Universidade – Bangkok 2007 and silver from the Universidade – Belgrade 2009.
