Where do we start, how is the terrain, how do we reach the competition locations? These questions were also posed by a group from Great Britain and set out on the terrain of the 10km run and the cross relays. The orientation was managed on the basis of printed maps. While the group only inspected the starting area, others were already running the entire 10km route to get a feeling for the track.
While the two gentlemen in the photo on the right belong to the consulters of a team, Ian Thompson is one of the runners. He intends to start three times, first 10km on Friday, cross relay on Saturday and half marathon on Sunday. Thomsen is not an unknown in sports circles: 1974, at the age of 25, he won the marathon in 2:09:12 at the Commonwealth Games in Christchurch only 39 seconds off the then world record.
